The Rhetorical Criticism course taught by Professor Valerie Thatcher, acquainted us with rhetorical criticism as a method for answering research questions in communication. We were provided with opportunities to apply critical methods in the writing of essays analyzing various kinds of texts. We also gained understanding of how to interpret critical essays.
Abstract
This paper uses Bormann’s fantasy theme critical method to analyze two of rapper
Ludacris’s performances in “What‟s Your Fantasy” and “Sex Room.” The performances by Ludacris that are analyzed were chosen to represent the majority of rap and hip-hop videos currently being viewed. This paper focuses on how fantasy themes relate to the realities viewers construct based on what they are seeing in the music videos. The research specifically looks at the roles that men and women play in rap music videos. This paper discusses the value women are given based on their sexual appeal, and the dominant roles men play in music videos
