Leadership & Ethics

During my time at St. Edward’s University, I joined the Hispanic Student Association on campus. I served as the Community Service Officer and led the planning of various community service events for the organization. I worked with the other officers and met on a weekly basis and hosted events such as the Woodward Clean-up, community service day at Casa Marianella and the Cesar Chavez March excursion for students.

Having implemented different events I realized that there was a need that was not being addressed by the organization. We were lacking student involvement and being that St. Edward’s has a large Hispanic population I knew that there was something that could be done. Once I spoke with the officers and discussed my concerns I created the Public Relations Officer postion. I felt that the HSA Organization needed more members and someone to specifically recruit additional students and also serve as the go-to person for any requests or concerns. That next semester I filled this new position and went to classes and spoke to the students about the HSA organization, passed out flyers and personal spoke with countless students, coordinated with professors that taught Chicano/Chicana classes at St. Edward’s and had a booth during the St. Edward’s on-campus involvement fair. At our first meeting we had over 60 members attend, compared to around 10-15 people in the past.
