Professionalism

As a Resident Assistant, part of my job is to host programs for the apartment residents throughout the year. I received the ‘Best Program Including a Faculty Member’ on behalf of Residence Life at St. Edward’s University with another resident assistant who I collaborated with for the program. I received this award based on how successful the program was (over 35 residents attended) and the feedback of the attendees. The proposal/budget deadline was met along with hosting the event with a positive attitude and advertising the program effectively. My cohort and I nominated Dr. Billy Earnest, who was  one of the faculty members that spoke at the program, and he was the recipient of the Faculty Partnership Award.

Together with my cohort, we hosted a program for the on-campus apartment residents entitled “Body Language and Love: the Good, the Bad, and the Giveaways.” This program allowed students to gain knowledge in body language. Dr. Billy Earnest spoke about the importance of non-verbal communication and how that relates to their relationships, business, and even to getting hired for a job. Also, the speakers discussed how to assess a situation by reading people’s feelings and thoughts through their body movements.

As college students, many of us are either in a relationship, looking for a relationship, or just recovering from one. Either way we form bonds and relationships with many of the people around us. Dr. Corrine Weisgerber led the love portion of the program and administered quiz’s that residents filled out that told them what type of love style they fit under. Knowing their love style allowed them to discover their strengths and weaknesses in order to build healthier relationships.
